Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling

I’ve had this book for many years, but never seemed to muster the will to read it.

Maybe it was because I am such a lover and fan of the original books that I was worried that this book based on the play will ruin Harry’s future life for me.

I was wrong.

This book delivered much more than I expected and stayed true to J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter.

The story follows Harry and his son Albus as they struggle with their father-son relationship.

Albus ends up in Slytherin and not Gryffindor and hates being under the shadow of his famous father.

Harry, on the other hand, is haunted by the evil of his past and both characters go on an adventure that defines who they are as father and son as well as individuals.

The book also gave us a glimpse of alternate realities and answered many “What if?” questions I had when reading the Harry Potter books. Some of those realities were very different from what I expected.

Overall a fabulous book that was able to complement the original series and was actually able to add many complex dimensions to the characters.

Recommended for: Anyone who read the original Harry Potter books

Score: 9.2/10
