Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins
This book just blows my mind and I keep asking myself the same question, “how can this be real?”.
Saying John Perkins has lived an interesting life, is a massive understatement. The guy basically was an economic James Bond. He stumbled into this career by marrying the niece of someone in the NSA.
His 1st assignment in Ecuador showed him the power he and other economic hitmen (EHM’s as they call themselves) to alter investments made by global companies in emerging markets.
An EHM’s main goal is to create debt in a country with natural resources in order to get political favors for the US and other western countries. These people use whatever means necessary to get the job done be it bribery or coercion.
John has been heavily discredited for his work and many of his factual stories are called “imaginations”. Regardless if you believe him or not, they are very bone-chilling and captivating stories and if more people like him exist; the world is in trouble.
A great read, you would not want to put it down.
